Flemington’s new Club Stand, designed by Bates Smart and seamlessly constructed by Multiplex for Victoria Racing Club (VRC), is the exciting new addition to Flemington Racecourse for the 2018 Spring Carnival. The international prestige of thoroughbred racing is embodied in the new sophisticated design, and the rich traditions and history that are associated with this famous location are the inspiration behind it.
The Club Stand is curvaceous and uplifting in design, transparent and grand in materiality, and vibrant in structure. The sculptural ‘petal’ projections at each level takes inspiration from Flemington’s iconic rose garden beds, making a fashionable reference to the ebullience of the Spring Racing Carnival. Designed as an ‘in-the-round’ experience, the stand provides an impressive and immersive 360-degree view to its venues.
The Club Stand’s luxurious interiors celebrate the elegance and legacy of Australian horse racing through the experience of world class hospitality, including two premium restaurants, three casual dining options, and eight diverse styles of bars across the five levels.
For race-goers, the new Club Stand offers an exciting and amplified race-day experience, with facilities designed to delight VRC Members and their guests. Each of the 17 social spaces are infused with a sense of history and a timeless palette, but are varied in contemporary style. The heritage of Flemington is woven throughout the Club Stand in sophisticated and subtle ways; a constant immersive reminder of the legacy of the Club, while championing its evolution. The venues celebrate the prestige, traditions and inspiration of the Club, and visualise its integrated future.
Each individual venue has been treated with its own signature personality and character, with a different atmosphere to appeal to different patrons. RC+D, in partnership with Ege, have provided 23 different custom carpets, specially designed for the VRC Club Stand. Each custom design has been perfected solely for the character of its space.
